No-exam life insurance

Which applicants qualify for expedited underwriting, the mechanics of the process, and what your options are otherwise.

Many insurers now provide rapid underwriting: within specified age and amount thresholds, they assess using your application, medication records, driving history and other factors instead of sending an examiner. Approvals can come within hours. This site's quotes show whether each product requires an exam, might require one, or doesn't need one.

What it changes

No-exam processes don't eliminate underwriting. Your answers will be cross-checked, and any policy issued based on incorrect information is contestable in the first 24 months. If carrier databases reveal inconsistencies, they might still require testing; you then choose to go forward.

Who tends to qualify

Most commonly, individuals under 60 applying for limits near the carrier's quick-approval threshold who have no significant medical conditions and haven't used nicotine in at least 12 months. Some carriers accept current lab work from a doctor in place of a new exam.

When needed, exams typically run 20 to 30 minutes conducted by a paramedical examiner at your Richmond-area location (home or office) at no charge. For healthy individuals, exam outcomes often improve your pricing tier, making it potentially beneficial rather than costly.
